Progress Report on Camp Lejeune Settlement Payouts

Overview of Settlement Entities: Within the government, both the Torts Branch and the DOJ are responsible for extending settlement offers to affected individuals.

Torts Branch Settlements:

  • Qualified Cases: 50
  • Elective Option (EO) Eligible Cases:
    • Bladder Cancer: 14
    • Kidney Cancer: 12
    • non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: 10
    • Kidney Disease: 5
    • Parkinson’s Disease: 4
    • Leukemia: 3
    • Multiple Myeloma: 2
  • Settlement Offers:
    • Accepted: 18
    • Declined: 9
    • Expired: 10
    • Pending: 13
  • Accepted Settlement Amounts:
    • Bladder Cancer: $150,000 – $450,000
    • Kidney Disease: $100,000 – $250,000
    • Kidney Cancer: $150,000 – $300,000
    • non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: $150,000
    • Multiple Myeloma: $250,000
    • Parkinson’s Disease: $100,000 – $400,000

Evaluating the Progress: While a fraction of cases have been settled, it’s too early to deem the Elective Option a failure. Efforts are underway to expedite the resolution process, including the development of a questionnaire and a roadmap. Additionally, the proposal to appoint a Special Settlement Master reflects a growing recognition of the need for swift settlement efforts.
