In a recent turn of events, the AFFF class action lawsuit has taken a closer look at the turnout gear PFAS claims, shedding light on a crucial aspect of firefighter safety and health. These claims center around the alleged exposure of firefighters to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) present in the protective clothing worn during firefighting operations.

Firefighter turnout gear, essential for shielding against heat, flames, and chemical exposure, has been under scrutiny for its potential health impacts. Plaintiffs argue that the gear, containing PFAS, has exposed them to harmful chemicals, resulting in serious health conditions such as cancer, liver damage, thyroid disease, and other injuries.

To address these concerns, the court has issued Case Management Order No. 5F, introducing specific procedures for managing Plaintiff Fact Sheets (PFS) related to claims involving firefighter turnout gear. This order mandates the completion of a tailored PFS for cases against manufacturers, aiming to streamline the litigation process and provide a comprehensive overview of the claims related to PFAS exposure from turnout gear.
